Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions Union County families ask most.

How much does a local move cost?
Local moves start at $139/hour for a 2-mover crew with the truck, blankets, dollies and basic tools included. A typical 1-2 bedroom takes 2-4 hours. After a quick walkthrough or video survey we can also lock in a flat rate so there are no surprises on move day.
Do you charge a flat rate or by the hour?
Both. Local moves are usually hourly, so you only pay for the time we actually work. Long-distance and large jobs are quoted as one flat rate based on your inventory and the distance. We'll recommend whichever option saves you money.
Is the estimate really free?
Yes. Quotes are 100% free with no obligation. Call (888) 711-4778 or fill out the form and we'll send a written estimate the same day, usually within one business hour.
What's included in the hourly rate?
The truck, fuel within the local area, furniture blankets, shrink wrap, dollies, straps and the crew. There's no separate trip fee buried in the fine print, what we quote is what you pay.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
Local moves have a 2-hour minimum, which covers most studio and one-bedroom jobs. After the minimum we bill in 15-minute increments, so you're never rounded up to the next full hour.
Do you require a deposit?
A small refundable deposit holds your date for larger and long-distance moves. Most local hourly moves need no deposit at all, we simply confirm by phone the day before.
How do you calculate a long-distance price?
We base it on the weight or volume of your shipment, the mileage, and any access details such as stairs, long carries or shuttle needs. You get one flat, written number up front, with no per-pound shocks at delivery.
Will my price change on move day?
Only if the job itself changes, for example you add a second stop or twice the boxes you originally listed. As long as the inventory matches what we quoted, the price holds.
Are there extra fees for stairs or elevators?
On standard hourly local moves, stairs and elevators are simply part of the time. On flat-rate and long-distance jobs we account for them in the quote, so just ask and we'll spell it out.
Do you charge more for weekends?
Weekends and the first and last few days of the month are our busiest, so rates can be slightly higher and book up fast. Mid-week and mid-month moves are the best value.
How far in advance should I book?
Two to three weeks is ideal for weekend moves. Weekday and mid-month dates can often be booked a few days out, and when a crew is open we're happy to take same-day and last-minute jobs.
Do you offer same-day or last-minute moves?
Yes, whenever a crew is available. Call (888) 711-4778 and we'll tell you on the spot what we can do today.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in Linden and cover all of Union County, including Elizabeth, Rahway, Roselle, Cranford and Westfield, plus intrastate New Jersey and long-distance moves from NJ to anywhere in the country.
Can I change my move date after booking?
Of course. Just give us as much notice as you can and we'll move your date at no charge, subject to crew availability.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel up to 48 hours before your move and any deposit is fully refunded. We don't believe in penalizing people whose plans change.
How do I confirm my booking?
Once you accept the estimate we email a written confirmation with your date, arrival window, crew size and price. We then call to reconfirm the day before your move.
Do you work on holidays?
We run limited crews on most holidays for an additional fee. Let us know your date and we'll confirm availability right away.
What if it rains or snows on move day?
We move rain or shine. Our crews protect your floors, wrap furniture and use moving blankets to keep everything dry. Only severe weather that makes driving unsafe would push a date, and we'd reschedule immediately.
What time will the crew arrive?
We give a two-hour arrival window and call when the truck is on the way. Morning slots usually start between 8 and 9 a.m.
How many movers will come?
Most homes get a 2- or 3-mover crew, while larger houses and tight timelines get 4 or more. We size the crew to finish efficiently without overcharging you for idle hands.
Do I need to be there during the move?
Yes, you or someone you authorize should be on site to direct the crew, point out fragile items and do the final walkthrough. If you can't be there, we can work with a designated contact.
Will you move things up and down stairs?
Absolutely. Stairs, tight hallways and walk-ups are routine for our crews. Just mention them when you book so we bring the right equipment.
Do you disassemble and reassemble furniture?
Yes. We take apart beds, tables and other large pieces at pickup and put them back together at your new place as part of the service.
Can you move a single item or just a few pieces?
Yes. We handle small jobs, single-item moves and in-home rearranging. There's a short minimum, but no job is too small for us.
Do you move offices and businesses?
We do. We handle office and commercial relocations, often after hours or on weekends to keep your downtime to a minimum.
What won't you transport?
For safety and legal reasons we can't take hazardous materials like propane, paint and chemicals, perishable food, or ammunition. We'll give you a full list when you book so there are no surprises.
Do you provide the truck, or do I rent one?
We bring our own clean, fully equipped trucks and uniformed crew. You never have to rent or drive anything yourself.
Do you offer packing services?
Yes. We offer full-service packing where we pack your whole home, or partial packing for just the kitchen, fragile items, or whatever you'd rather not handle yourself.
Can I do my own packing to save money?
Definitely. Many customers pack their own boxes and leave the furniture and heavy lifting to us. We're also glad to pack only the breakables if you prefer.
Do you sell boxes and packing supplies?
We do, including boxes, tape, paper, bubble wrap and specialty cartons for dishes, wardrobes and TVs. We can deliver them ahead of your move.
How should I label my boxes?
Mark the room each box belongs in and note which ones are fragile. It helps our crew place every box in the right spot at your new home and speeds up the whole move.
Do you pack and move TVs and electronics?
Yes. We wrap flat-screens in padded covers or boxes and bundle the cords. If you still have the original TV box, set it aside and we'll use it.
Will you wrap my mattress?
We wrap every mattress in a clean cover or blanket to keep it protected and sanitary during transport, at no extra charge.
How many boxes will I need?
A rough rule of thumb is about 10 boxes per room, but it varies a lot. Tell us your home size and we'll estimate the supplies for you.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Awesome Moving is a fully licensed and insured moving company with NJ DOT authority for intrastate moves and USDOT/MC authority for interstate moves, all on file and available on request.
What kind of insurance covers my belongings?
Every move includes basic carrier liability coverage by law. For full peace of mind you can add full-value protection, which we'll explain and price when you book.
What happens if something gets damaged?
We treat your things like our own, but if an item is damaged we make it right. File a claim with us and we'll repair, replace or reimburse according to your coverage.
Are your movers background-checked employees?
Yes. Our crews are our own trained, uniformed, background-checked employees, never day-labor or subcontractors picked up for the job.
Can you provide a Certificate of Insurance for my building?
Yes. Many apartments and high-rises require a COI. Send us your building's requirements and we'll issue it before move day at no charge.
Is my deposit refundable?
Yes, when you cancel within our policy window of 48 hours before the move. We'll always tell you up front exactly what is refundable.
Can you move a piano?
Yes. We move upright and grand pianos with the proper boards, straps and padding. Tell us the type and the access at both ends so we bring the right crew and gear.
Do you move gun safes and other heavy items?
We do, including gun safes, pool tables, large appliances and other heavy or awkward pieces. These need special equipment, so please flag them when you book.
Can you handle antiques and fragile valuables?
Yes. We custom-wrap antiques, mirrors, artwork and heirlooms, and can build crates for especially delicate pieces.
Do you offer storage?
We offer short-term storage for when your dates don't line up. Your items stay wrapped and secured, and we deliver them when you're ready.
Can you move my car or motorcycle?
On long-distance jobs we can arrange auto transport along with your household goods. Ask us and we'll quote it together.
Do you move appliances like washers and refrigerators?
Yes. Disconnect-ready appliances are wrapped and hauled with care. We recommend having water and gas lines professionally disconnected beforehand for safety.
